Families are our future
Helping families thrive is very high up the Lower Saxony's state government's policy agenda. Families are the basis from which children develop and form the bedrock of our society. Both parents and children require a family-friendly infrastructure to help them cope well in their day-to-day lives.

Senior citizens
Lower Saxony is seeking to build bridges between the generations. The action it is taking to this end includes creating "multi-generational centres", an idea born in Lower Saxony that is now being implemented nationwide.

Gender equality / women
While progress has certainly been made in achieving equality, the pace is still too slow. The State Government of Lower Saxony believes that gender equality will remain a policy challenge as long as opportunties for women and men are distributed inequitably – disadvantage must be eliminated.

Women and girls
Lower Saxony has launched an action plan to combat domestic violence towards women, embracing all activities and cooperative ventures at state level. The Lower Saxony Ministry Women’s Affairs supports all the organizations and assistive services involved, providing substantial annual grants.
