The Lower Saxony state government
The government of Lower Saxony comprises the Minister President and currently ten ministers. Together, they make up the cabinet.
The remit of the government is to manage and develop Lower Saxony’s political affairs at Federal State level. The government is simultaneously responsible for implementation of the laws adopted by Lower Saxony State Parliament [“Landtag”]. As a rule, the cabinet meets once per week to discuss bills and statutory instruments.
The primary tasks of the government include, for example, the elaboration and preparation of legislation relating to school and university policies, art and culture, as well as specification of the police and internal security directives in Lower Saxony. As a member of the Federal Council [“Bundesrat”], the government of Lower Saxony is also jointly responsible for the legislation of the Federal Republic of Germany and for European Union affairs.
